Festivals, special events, and performances are held frequently in Downtown Waynesville, sponsored by the Downtown Waynesville Association and other area organizations. All events take place on Main Street unless otherwise stated.

January 13 – Sat – Winter Arts Smoky Style Downtown Galleries winter promotion of the arts will be held downtown from 4-7 pm with a theme of “It’s Chili Out” Warm Your Heart With Art

February 17 – Sat – Winter Arts Smoky Style Downtown Galleries winter promotion of the arts will be held downtown from 4-7 pm with a theme of “HeART Warming”: A Fundraiser for People Who Need Help with Heating Costs

March 17 – Sat – Winter Arts Smoky Style Downtown Galleries winter promotion of the arts will be held downtown from 4-7 pm with a theme of “Luck of the Art”

May 26- Sat – BLOCK PARTY Dancing in Main Street, 3 live bands, 7pm; “Kids on Main” activity hour, 6-7pm, eats & treats, restaurants open.

June 1- Fri – “ART after DARK”
Participating galleries & studios remain open until 9 pm on this evening with special artist’s showings, displays, and refreshments. Look for the WGA group flag representing the Waynesville Gallery Association.

June 9 – Sat – The 8th Annual APPALACHIAN LIFESTYLE CELEBRATION A heritage themed event. Mountain Music, Clogging, Demonstrations, Art, Craft, Storytelling, Traditional Food 10am-5pm

June 22 – Fri – MOUNTAIN STREET DANCE An old-fashioned mountain hoe down! Live mountain music & clogging, instructions & demonstrations, concessions, Historic Courthouse. 6:30-9pm.

July 4 -Tues – STARS & STRIPES CELEBRATION Shops & Restaurants open all day, live music & entertainment, 11-3. Patriotic Kid’s Parade on Main Street 11am; Haywood Community Band Patriotic Concert on Courthouse lawn, 2 pm.

July 6- Fri – “ART after DARK”

July 6 – Fri – MOUNTAIN STREET DANCE An old-fashioned mountain hoe down! Live mountain music & clogging, instructions & demonstrations, concessions, Historic Courthouse. 6:30-9pm.

July 19-29 FOLKMOOT USA INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL NC’s Official International Festival celebrating the world’s cultural heritage through folk music and dance. Countries from around the world attend and showcase performances are held in Waynesville and regional venues. www.folkmoot.org

July 20 – Fri – MOUNTAIN STREET DANCE An old-fashioned mountain hoe down! Live mountain music & clogging, instructions & demonstrations, concessions, Historic Courthouse. 6:30-9pm.

July 21 -Sat – FOLKMOOT USA PARADE of NATIONS International dancers & musicians parade down Main Street to Opening Ceremonies on Historic Courthouse lawn 10 am

July 28 – Sat – INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL DAY, a Folkmoot USA celebration on Main Street featuring, art & craft booths, dance performances, music, food 10-5

August 3 – Fri – “ART after DARK”

October 13 – Sat – The 35th annual CHURCH STREET ART & CRAFT SHOW on Main St! Known as one of the finest one-day juried art shows in the region. An art & craft marketplace with great food & drink, two stages of mountain music, clogging, entertainment & more, 10-5pm.

October 20 – Sat – The 30th annual APPLE HARVEST FESTIVAL Music 7 clogging, art & craft booths, delicious food, and apples! 10-5pm

October 31 – Wed – TREATS on the STREET Participating Downtown merchants offer Halloween treats for young children, 5 – 7 pm

November 2 – Fri – “ART after DARK”

December 1-31 – “ALL THROUGH THE TOWN” Holiday happenings all month in downtown businesses and area churches

December 3 – Monday Night – Waynesville CHRISTMAS PARADE Enjoy this annual community tradition as numerous illuminated entries parade up Main Street celebrating the spirit of the holidays. Santa Claus makes a special appearance as the guest of honor! 6pm

December 7-9 – Fri-Sun “HOLLY DAYS” Seasonal holiday events in the Main Street area are held throughout weekend beginning with a Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting and “Art after Dark” on Friday evening; “A Night Before Christmas” celebration on Saturday night; and more on Sunday in the festively decorated shops and restaurants.
